a little | real life diy #1
This is hopefully my first of many real life diy posts. I see all of these great diy projects on blogs and then I wonder if they really turn out as well in real life. Experiment #1 was a SUCCESS!!
I posted here that I was planning on trying this one first, so last night I broke out the mod podge and tiles and gave it a try. Here are my results:
I was inspired by the art of coulson macleod. I used that same typographic style for the art on these custom coasters. We have a wedding coming up in the middle of June and I think these will make the perfect gift. I used a 'Hard Coat' mod podge that allowed me to turn 4 decorative tile into 4 functional coasters.
I followed the same process as the hybrid chick with the only deviation being the final coat was done with the 'Hard Coat' mod podge to insure the coasters can withstand hot and cold liquids.
I also added on self-stick rubber pads to the bottom to keep it from scratching the table.
As for my next real life diy I'm thinking these.
a little | diy ruffle pillow
Found via Etsy How-Tuesday
Who doesn't love Etsy and their How-Tuesday? How great is this pillow and it even looks pretty easy to make. Guess I'm going to have to learn to sew. :)

a little | bookmarks to be cont.
Who knew I had so many bookmarked diy sites. This is definitely a task that will have to be continued. Though while posting them I had another small epiphany...Look forward to my attempts at these diys to come. Isn't that why they give me summers off, so I have time to make all these wonderful projects. My new goal is to see how many of these diys I can complete before summer is through. Then we will know which ones work and which ones don't.
First on my list...this one.
a little | diy floral notebook
Found via Twig and Thistle
Another great tutorial with another great download. Perfect for gifts or a sketchbook for yourself.
a little | diy screen printing
Found via Curbly
After taking this class almost a year ago, I have been in LOVE with screen printing. Unfortunately, the screens are so expensive to make. Then I found this doozy of a website. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm hoping over the summer I will. If you have tried it or have found an even better cheaper way do share!
a little | diy napkin ring
a little | diy plush alphabet
Found via Chez Beeper Bebe
I love tutorial especially when they have a free template download. I'm tempted to start making these now, so one day when I have kids they will actually be finished.
a little | blog epiphany
Why do I blog? I asked myself this question today as I was checking my google analytics only to see I have all of 29 hits on this site and I decided something...I don't blog for you, (though I truly thank all 29 of you for visiting, even though I think half of those are actually me) I blog for me. I blog so someday when I think 'I know I had a wonderful idea for my MOH's baby shower' I'll know just where to find my ideas. I just hope along the way those who view this blog like my ideas enough to keep coming back.
Now get ready for a series of crafty posts. I am cleaning out my bookmark folder and putting those links on here for everyone to enjoy. Enjoy!

a little | typographic art
Found via papernstich
I, like papernstich, am a sucker for typography. I love these pieces of art and the creative wheels are turning for some fun, cheap typographic art for our dining room. I'm thinking of using the passages read at our wedding. Sounds like I need summer vacation, so I can have some time to create.
a little | home decor
Found via design * sponge
The setup of our townhouse is awkward to say the least. We recently put the living room where the dining room is suppose to be and the dining room where the living room is suppose to be. This may sound crazy, but I think it has actually made it less awkward. To divide the two rooms there is a slight jut in the ceiling leaving about 12 inches of space prime for decorating. I have been torn on what to do with the space until I saw this. Can't wait to bring in a splash of color and find a way to incorporate our wedding/engagement photos. Pictures to come soon...After I actually complete it of course. :)

a little | q&a
Here's a few q&a via marvelous. Enjoy and of course I'd love to hear a little about you as well...
1. When do you feel happiest?
When Gregg and I get goofy tired and have the most ridiculous late night pillow talks that have me laughing for days.
2. How do you take care of yourself?
1. When do you feel happiest?
When Gregg and I get goofy tired and have the most ridiculous late night pillow talks that have me laughing for days.
2. How do you take care of yourself?
I sleep in on weekends and take naps often. I know there will come a time in my life when sleeping in and naps are not an option, so for now I take full advantage of my sleep time.
3. Are you internally (by yourself) or externally (by others) motivated?
I'm a people pleaser, so externally motivated. When it comes to motivating myself I normally have to offer myself some sort of reward to get stuff done. My favorite rewards are doughnuts, ice cream, and brownies.
4. What do you do for fun?
I'm pretty cliché...Travel, spend time with friends and family, spend time with Gregg, and of course my crafting time. I love to learn new things, especially thing I can do. I'm hoping to take my first painting class this summer. (I know I'm an art teacher that has never taken a painting class. Don't tell my principal. )
5. What intimidates you?
Times when I feel like I'm not good enough.
6. What is something you're proud of?
My relationship with my husband. We started dating when I was 16 and didn't get married until I was 26. It has been a long and some times bumpy road, but it is a road we have only just begun walking.
7. Finish this sentence. I never _____________ hmmm...bite my fingernails. :) Um, I never...thought I would grow up to be an art teacher. When my students tell me their favorite special is art I tell them my favorite special was Music and PE, though now that I am an art teacher I LOVE my job!
8. Favorite vacation spot.
I feel like the best vacations aren't the places you go, but the people you go with or to visit. With that said the place I most enjoyed going was Venice.
9. Today is a (rate from 1 - 10).
10 - It is Saturday of course it is a 10.
10. Finish this sentence. If you knew me really well you'd know _____________ I have the palette of a 10 year old girl. I will take a cheeseburger and chicken strips over caviar any day. I have set myself a goal to make something new for dinner once a week. If you know me you know that this is a really, really big undertaking for me. Look forward to update posts about my cooking (disasters). :)
